Académie Française Located on the left bank of the Seine the Académie Française is an organization which moderates the French language. The primary role of the Académie française is to regulate the French language by determining standards of acceptable grammar and vocabulary, as well as adapting to linguistic change by adding new words and updating the meanings of existing ones. Officially, "The primary function of the Académie will be to work, with all possible care and diligence, to give our language definite rules and to make it pure, eloquent, and capable of dealing with art and science." Rue de Rivoli Rue de Rivoli is one of the most famous streets of Paris, a commercial street whose shops include the most fashionable names in the world. It bears the name of Napoleon's early victory against the Austrian army, at the 1797 battle of Rivoli. Next Image |

Boulevard Saint-Germain The Boulevard Saint-Germain derives its name from the former abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés which stood here in the Middle Ages. The area around the boulevard is also referred to as the Faubourg Saint-Germain, or "suburb" of Saint-Germain which developed to the west of the abbey. Next Image |

Louvre The Louvre Museum (French: Musée du Louvre) in Paris, France, is the most visited and one of the oldest, largest, and most famous art galleries and museums in the world with 8.3 million visitors in 2006. Previously a royal palace it holds some of the world's most famous works of art, such as Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, The Virgin and Child with St. Anne, Madonna of the Rocks. Located in the centre of the city of Paris, between the Rive Droite of the Seine and the rue de Rivoli in the Ier arrondissement, it is accessed by the Palais Royal —Musée du Louvre Metro station. La Conciergerie
La Conciergerie is a former royal palace and prison in Paris, located on the west of the Île de la Cité, near the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. It is part of the larger complex known as the Palais de Justice, which is still used for judicial purposes. Hundreds of prisoners during the French Revolution were executed on the guillotines at La Conciergerie. Next Image |
